The Mail Boat Cruise

The Mail Boat Cruise

Our most popular and iconic trip is the Beachcomber Cruises Mail Boat. The Mail has been delivered by boat for over 150 years in the Queen Charlotte Sounds and we are proud to uphold that service! We are the only official licensed New Zealand Post Rural Delivery Service by water in the Queen Charlotte Sound making this a truly unique and interesting tour!

Come along with us and share in the excitement of Mail Day as the skipper delivers the NZ Rural post bags, groceries and anything else that the residents may need! Wether it be live bees, baby chickens, horse feed, plants, puppies, decorating supplies, birthday flowers, schoolwork, even the residents friends and family, and of course the presents at Christmas time - the Mail Boat delivers it all! (as long as it will fit).

Operating from Monday to Saturday, no one day is the same as the route changes daily covering a different area delivering the Mail. During your cruise the skipper will provide an interesting and informative commentary on the history of the Marlborough Sounds and the people who lived there then and now. Feel free to ask him any questions and keep your camera handy for any (unscheduled) wildlife encounters!

People often ask what the best day to go is, or what route we like the best. Honestly each has its own highlights, whether it be the secluded serenity of East Bay, the History Steeped bays of the Tory Channel, the chickens at Big Dog Bay and of course not to mention the big dog himself our friend Kuri! Let’s not forget the people either like the Heberley family in the Tory Channel who once battled the mighty whales at New Zealand’s last operating whaling station.

If we have time we also like to take a short stop at Historic Ship Cove. Named by Captain James Cook in January 1770 when his ship the Endeavour anchored here to replenish supplies of food, water and wood.

Join us for a trip of a lifetime!
