3 Day Walk the Queen Charlotte Track from Ship Cove to Anakiwa staying at Lochmara Lodge

Day One

Depart Picton the 9:00am scheduled Ship Cove Cruise and join the boat as we cruise to the Northern End of the Queen Charlotte Sound to Historic Ship Cove. Spend some time ashore at Ship Cove and see the Captain Cook monument, spot native wildlife and paddle on the beach before re joining your vessel, cruising via Endeavour Inlet and finally dropping you off at Torea Bay at approximately 12:00pm. From Torea bay, the walk to Lochmara Lodge is approximately 10km or 4 hours - there is a steep uphill climb to start but you are soon rewarded with stunning views over the Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds. When you check into our office at 8:30am, a packed lunch for the day will be waiting for you.

Once arriving at Lochmara Lodge, check in, your bags will be in your room waiting for you - enjoy some time at the resort before settling in for the night.

Day Two

Enjoy a restful day at Lochmara Lodge, take a walk around the local tracks to see native wildlife, relax in the many hidden hammocks or follow the art trail around the property. Take a swim on the beach or treat yourself to a massage or soak in the bathhouse or visit the new underwater observatory (additional costs apply). When you check in you will have received a list of daily activities such as pet and fish feeding. We recommend heading out onto the Lochmara Tracks at twilight to stargaze from the hammocks, spotting glow worms along the way.

Day Three

From Lochmara Lodge enjoy a restful breakfast and check out - don't forget to pick up your packed lunch, leaving your bags at Reception for us to collect - head out onto the Queen Charlotte Track for a 15km easier grade walk to Anakiwa where the water taxi will collect you at 3:30pm to bring you back to Picton. Your bags will be collected and will be back in Picton waiting for you. Expect this walk to take approximately 5 hours.
